JULIAN, CA — Two people were killed and two others injured Saturday when a pair of pickup trucks crashed head-on just east of Julian, on Banner Grade, in a rural northeastern part of the county.

The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 2:50 p.m. Saturday at state Route 78 and Mastros Trailer Park Road.

FOX5 reported that two people were killed and two others were airlifted to a hospital for treatment of their injuries. A description of the involved parties was not provided.

It was unclear why the two vehicles collided. It was also unclear how fast the vehicles were traveling.

The CHP issued a SigAlert shutting down SR-78 in both directions at Mastros Trailer Park Road.
