NATIONAL CITY, CA —An investigation was continuing Monday into the deaths of two people who were struck by vehicles when they got out of their own crashed car and tried to run across the 805 Freeway in the National City area.

The pair were killed at about 8:25 p.m. Sunday on the northbound 805 Freeway south of Plaza Boulevard, according to Officer Salvador Castro of the CHP.

Castro said a Toyota XA collided with a Honda Civic, and the Toyota's male and female occupants got out of the car, jumped over the center median wall and for unknown reasons attempted to run across the southbound freeway lanes.
