2 Killed In Crash Near Mission Bay
Two people were killed in a collision between a car and a motorcycle in the Mission Bay area.
SAN DIEGO, CA — Two people were killed Thursday in a collision between a car and a motorcycle in the Mission Bay area.
The fatal wreck occurred shortly before 9 a.m., when a 34-year-old man riding a Honda CBR600RR sport bike west on West Mission Bay Drive tried to pass a Toyota Prius on the right as the driver of the sedan was making a right- hand turn toward Dana Landing Road, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The resulting crash sent the motorcyclist tumbling into the intersection, SDPD Officer David O'Brien said. The rider died at the scene of the accident.

One of five occupants of the car, a 39-year-old woman in the front seat, suffered critical injuries, O'Brien said. Paramedics took her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The names of the deceased were withheld pending family notification.

The collision left another woman in the Prius with a minor abrasion, according to police. The 42-year-old man behind the wheel of the car and two juvenile passengers were uninjured, O'Brien said.
