SAN DIEGO — A man was killed Wednesday morning after an apparent jump from a bridge over Interstate 5 in the Bay Park area, halting traffic on the northbound freeway.
Dispatchers received multiple calls around 6:50 a.m. from motorists who reported that a man had jumped off the Clairemont Drive overpass and landed on northbound Interstate 5, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log.
Several vehicles pulled over to prevent motorists from running the man over, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the log.

A SigAlert was issued shutting down the left two lanes of the northbound freeway near Clairemont Drive for an unknown duration.
As of 8 a.m., traffic on the northbound freeway was heavily backed up past Laurel Street.
