2-Month-Old Killed By Mother In San Diego, Police Say
The infant suffered trauma to her body that indicated she was a victim of a violent crime, police said.
SAN DIEGO, CA — A mother was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of murdering her 2-month-old daughter in San Diego, police said Monday.
Authorities responded to a report of a possible death of an infant at 11:33 a.m. Sunday at an apartment in the 10300 block of San Diego Mission Road. During a welfare check at the home, police found the "obviously deceased" infant, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The infant suffered trauma to her body that indicated she was a victim of a violent crime, police said. Her mother, Christine Mendoza, 35, of San Diego was detained. She will be booked into San Diego County jail for one count of murder, police said.

"It is still very early in the investigation and detectives are still in the process of interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence to determine exactly what occurred," police said in a news release. "However, at this time this appears to a tragic domestic-related incident where the infant's mother killed her child for unknown reasons. At this time, there are no outstanding suspects and this appears to be an isolated incident."
