Brown also appointed Chula Vista resident and Southwestern College Superintendent and President Kindred Murillo, 63, to the Community College Student Success Funding Formula Oversight Committee.
The committee oversees and reviews the allocation of funding for California's community colleges according to the state's Student-Centered Funding Formula.
According to the state, the formula helps schools get the funding they need based on factors such as how many low-income students are enrolled at a particular school.
Prior to running Southwestern College, Murillo served as the superintendent and president at the Lake Tahoe Community College District, the vice chancellor of administrative services at the Contra Costa College District and the vice president of administrative services at the Pasadena Community College District and the Copper Mountain Community College District.
She also sits on the South County Economic Development Council and the South County YMCA Advisory Board. Murillo is registered with the Green Party.
Neither Schmeding nor Murillo require Senate confirmation for their positions.
Neither will be compensated for their service.
