20 Felony Arrests, 14 Guns Seized During Hells Angels Gathering In San Diego County

SAN DIEGO, CA — A coordinated law enforcement operation targeting members and associates of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang during their annual "Southrun" gathering in San Diego County resulted in 20 felony arrests, 14 firearm seizures and dozens of citations, authorities said.

The enforcement effort took place May 29-30 and involved the San Diego Police Department, San Diego County Sheriff's Office, El Cajon Police Department and California Highway Patrol. Officials said more than 200 Hells Angels members and associates traveled to the region for the event.

Authorities conducted numerous traffic stops over the two-day operation, resulting in 140 police contacts, 64 citations for traffic violations and other offenses, four misdemeanor arrests, 20 felony arrests, and multiple motorcycle and vehicle impounds. Officers also seized 14 firearms and reported finding loaded guns, knives, hammers and other weapons in the possession of some riders.

One motorcyclist who officers attempted to stop for a traffic violation fled at speeds exceeding 100 mph through Lakeside and Alpine during rush-hour traffic before being arrested, police said.

Officials said the event drew heightened attention because Hells Angels members from the southwest region have been linked to multiple violent incidents in recent years, including a 2023 attack in Ocean Beach in which three people were stabbed and beaten. Eighteen gang members and associates were later convicted on felony hate crime and gang-related charges.

Authorities said those arrested during the weekend operation had criminal histories that included homicide, attempted rape, robbery, illegal weapons possession, narcotics offenses, auto theft, child endangerment and parole violations.
