$3.2M In Cocaine, Meth Found In Bus Gas Tank At San Ysidro Border

Border ​Patrol agents on Sunday found more than 200 pounds of cocaine and meth in the gas tank of a bus at the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA – Border Patrol agents over the weekend seized more than $3.2 million in cocaine and methamphetamine from the gas tank of a bus at the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

Officers stopped the commercial bus around 9:30 p.m. Sunday after a canine team alerted agents to the vehicle waiting to be inspected, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Upon further inspection, agents discovered 48 packages of cocaine and 50 packages of meth.

According to CBP, the cocaine weighed more than 200 pounds with an estimated street value of over $3 million. The meth weighed more than 25 pounds with an estimated street value of $182,000.

“CBP officers remain vigilant and committed to halting the drug trafficking originations attempts to smuggle narcotics into the U.S.” said Pete Flores, director of field operations for CBP in San Diego. “CBP’s seizure of these narcotics sends a strong message that our efforts to stop illegal narcotics from entering our country will never falter.”

The driver of the bus, identified as a 50-year-old Mexican citizen and B1/B2 Visa holder, was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations.

Border Patrol agents seized the bus and the drugs. Officers also put an immigration hold on the driver so that he will be returned to the custody of the Department of Homeland Security after the judicial process.
