4 DUI Checkpoints Scheduled This Weekend In San Diego County

SAN DIEGO, CA — Multiple DUI checkpoints are scheduled this weekend in San Diego County, from North County to the South Bay.
Three checkpoints are slated Friday.
The Carlsbad Police Department is conducting a checkpoint from 6 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location in the city. The El Cajon Police Department is conducting a checkpoint from 8 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday in the 900 block of East Main Street in El Cajon.

The Escondido Police Department is also holding a checkpoint from 5 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location in the city.
On Saturday, the Chula Vista Police Department is conducting a DUI checkpoint. The checkpoint is set from 6 p.m. to midnight at an undisclosed location in the city.

During the checkpoints, officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes, according to the departments. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
