SDG&E Shutoffs: 25,000 Customers Without Power
Nearly 41,000 San Diego Gas & Electric customers face public safety power shutoffs this week.
SAN DIEGO — As millions of people in Northern and Central California face another round of planned power outages amid strong winds and fire weather conditions, San Diego Gas & Electric announced tens of thousands of customers in San Diego County could also be subject to public safety power shutoffs this week.
As of Wednesday afternoon, SDG&E has cut the power to approximately 25,000 customers.
Strong Santa Ana winds returned to the San Diego region late Tuesday evening, raising the threat of wildfires through Thursday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

In response to the critical fire weather conditions, SDG&E notified roughly 41,000 customers in San Diego and Orange counties they may lose power due to precautionary power shutoffs. (These notifications included only 75 customers in Orange County.) (See a map of affected areas.)

Major utility companies in California have been shutting off power proactively to prevent wildfires after utility lines started massively deadly and destructive fires over the last two years.

Power Shutoffs
As of noon Wednesday, SDG&E turned off power to roughly 25,000 customers in the following communities:
- Alpine
- Boulevard
- Campo
- Descanso
- Dulzura
- El Cajon (portions of)
- Encinitas (portions of)
- Escondido (portions of)
- Fallbrook
- Jamul
- Julian
- Mount Laguna
- Pala
- Pauma Valley
- Pine Valley
- Potrero
- Poway (portions of)
- Rainbow
- Ramona
- Rancho Bernardo (portions of)
- Rancho Santa Fe (portions of)
- San Juan Capistrano (unincorporated area east of San Juan Capistrano)
- Santa Ysabel
- Valley Center
SDG&E Community Resource Centers and Community Information Centers
SDG&E advised customers who received notifications to be prepared and make sure they have emergency supplies such as water, food, flashlights, extra batteries and cellphone battery packs.
SDG&E opened seven Community Resource Centers and two Community Information Centers on Wednesday to support impacted customers.
The Community Resource Centers, except for the Julian location, have ice, as well as a water truck for livestock. Residents can also charge their phone, get snacks and receive up-to-date information at these facilities. Community Information Centers provide information only.
