A high wind advisory and a beach hazards statement was issued for San Diego County in anticipation of strong winds and intense currents.

SAN DIEGO, CA — As strong winds and cooler weather return to Southern California over the week, the National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for San Diego County.

Residents can expect northeast winds ranging from 10 to 20 miles per hour, with gusts up to 35 miles per hour expected.

The Wind Advisory begins at 1 p.m. Tuesday and will remain in place until 7 p.m. Tuesday, the National Weather Service announced Tuesday.

The wind advisory affects the Orange County coastal areas, San Diego County valleys, Orange County inland areas and San Diego County coastal areas.

"Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects," NWS officials said.

Residents should be prepared for damaging winds blowing over trees and power lines, and should take down any outdoor items that may blow away in the wind.

At San Diego beaches, a beach hazards statement remains in effect through Wednesday morning. Surf could elevate by 3 to 5 feet with sets up to 7 feet tall, officials said.

Elevated surf and intense rip currents could create hazardous conditions for beachgoers, officials said.
