8 San Diego Area Students Receive 2023 National Merit Scholarships
Nationwide, 840 high school seniors received corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarships.
SAN DIEGO, CA — Eight high school students in San Diego County received corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarships this year, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced last month.

The scholarship winners were the first group of recipients announced as part of the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Nationwide, 840 high school seniors received Merit Scholarships financed by 107 corporations, company foundations, and other business organizations.
Some of the scholarships provide a single payment between $2,500 and $5,000. Others provide annual stipends that range from $1,000 to $10,000 per year. The scholarships may be used at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university.
A second set of $2,500 Merit Scholarship winners were announced in May.
On June 7 and July 10, roughly 3,800 college-sponsored Merit Scholarship winners will be announced. In all, more than 7,140 award winners will receive scholarships worth nearly $28 million, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
