Airbnb Promises To Crack Down On New Disruptive Year's Eve Parties In San Diego

Airbnb announced Thursday a plan to crack down on disruptive New Year’s Eve parties, which have been a particular problem in vacation destinations like San Diego.

The online rental marketplace announced that guests without a history of positive reviews will be prohibited from making one-night reservations on Dec. 31 for entire-home listings.

For two-night reservations around the holiday, restrictions will be placed on properties that pose heightened risk for disruptive parties, with limits on last-minute bookings by guests without a history of positive reviews.

Guests who have a history of positive reviews on Airbnb will not be subject to any of these restrictions.

“We’re introducing new products and policies to crack down on disruptive NYE parties, helping to protect our hosts and minimizing neighborhood disruption,” the company said.

Airbnb had instituted a global party ban in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic, but noted that travel is resuming and vaccines are rolling out, making holiday gatherings more likely.

In 2020, over 2,300 rentals in San Diego were restricted because of the chance of disruptive parties.
