Amazon Plans To Create 200 New Jobs In San Diego Region

Amazon plans to expand its offices in six U.S. cities, including in San Diego, bringing 200 new jobs to the region, the company announced.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Amazon plans to expand its physical offices in six U.S. cities, including in San Diego, bringing 200 new jobs to the region, the company announced Tuesday.

Amazon plans to add more than 40,000 square feet of office space adjacent to UC San Diego.

"Amazon's continued growth in our San Diego Tech Hub and the creation of these 200 new jobs is a testament to the strong and diverse pool of tech talent in this community," said Igor von Nyssen, site lead at Amazon's San Diego Tech Hub.

"Our teams in San Diego continue to invent on behalf of our customers and we are incredibly happy with the caliber of the talent we've been able to recruit. We look forward to continue investing here and creating new opportunities for the community."

Amazon also announced plans to expand in Dallas, Detroit, Denver, New York and Phoenix.

The expansions will add a total of 3,500 new jobs, with 200 in San Diego, 600 in Dallas, 100 in Detroit, 100 in Denver, 2,000 in New York, and 500 in Phoenix, according to the company.

"These 3,500 new jobs will be in cities across the country with strong and diverse talent pools," said Amazon Human Resources Senior Vice President Beth Galetti. "We look forward to helping these communities grow their emerging tech workforce."

Amazon employs about 90,000 workers in California and more than 876,000 worldwide. The company currently has more than 70 tech and corporate roles open in the San Diego area.
