SAN DIEGO, CA — A 14-year-old boy was seriously injured when he collided with another vehicle while riding a dirt bike in San Diego's Encanto neighborhood, authorities said Wednesday.
The crash happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday, when the teen on a westbound 90cc dirt bike struck the front corner on the right side of a northbound Chevy Suburban driven by a 45-year-old man. The driver of the Chevy had attempted an eastbound turn onto the 6800 block of Wunderlin Avenue from 68th Street, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The teen suffered an open fracture to his left ankle, bilateral pulmonary contusions, multiple facial fractures and brain bleeds, the department reported.
Traffic Division officers were investigating and determined driving under the influence was not a contributing factor.
Authorities urged anyone with further information to call the SDPD or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
