SAN DIEGO, CA — A convict was captured Tuesday about seven hours after he escaped from a San Diego reentry facility, authorities said.
Rudy Beltran, 50, walked away at about 1 p.m. Tuesday from a Male Community Reentry Program after removing his GPS tracking device, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He was apprehended at around 8 p.m.
Beltran was sentenced in September 2009 in San Diego County to 28 years in prison for carjacking, with enhancements for prior felony convictions, according to the CDCR.
Beltran will be rehoused at a prison, and his case will be referred to the San Diego County District Attorney's Office for consideration of escape charges, the CDCR said.
The MCRP program allows eligible offenders to serve the end of their sentences in a community-based center and assists them in transitioning from custody to the community.
