SAN DIEGO, CA — A U.S. Coast Guard San Diego boarding team stopped a boat carrying 18 migrants about 30 miles south of San Clemente Island, officials said.
A boarding team from the Cutter Terrell Horne stopped the cuddy cabin-style boat around 9:30 a.m. Monday after being alerted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations that the vessel was entering U.S. waters, according to the Coast Guard.
The boarding team brought the vessel to compliance without using force and found 18 people aboard, all of whom claimed Mexican nationality, officials said.
The migrants were transferred to U.S. Border Patrol custody at Ballast Point.
