SAN DIEGO, CA — A new San Diego Gas & Electric outage map is allowing customers to use modern digital tools to gain clearer, more timely information during power outages, according to a recent news release.

Just Monday, about 50 homes in Oceanside, San Luis Rey, and Ocean Hills lost power for reasons that are yet unknown, according to the SDG&E Outage Map.

The outage was reported shortly before 10 a.m., according to SDG&E. A check online showed that all power repairs in the Oceanside area would be complete as of 3:30 p.m.

The SDG&E Outage Map, along with the department's new and upgraded platform, offers a more intuitive user experience, making it easier for residents and businesses experiencing an outage to stay informed about both planned service improvements and unplanned power interruptions.

While SDG&E consistently ranks among the most reliable utilities in the region, outages can still occur due to severe weather, wildfire risk or other external factors – making timely, accurate information especially important for customers.

Dana Golan, chief customer officer at SDG&E, spoke on the map.

“Our responsibility doesn’t stop at delivering safe and reliable energy – it also means keeping customers informed, especially when it matters most,” Golan said. “This new outage map reflects our commitment to transparency by turning complex grid information into clear, accessible updates, so customers and communities have the information they need to plan, stay informed and feel prepared.”

Key Enhancements for Customers:

The new outage map introduces several important improvements, including:

Built for Performance, Reliability and the Future

The new outage map is powered by a modern, cloud-based platform designed to scale during widespread outages and high-traffic events, according to the release. This marks the most significant update to SDG&E’s outage map since its last major rebuild in 2011, while improving speed, reliability and accuracy so customers can access timely, reliable information when they need it most.

Beyond today’s improvements, the platform creates a foundation for future enhancements, including more personalized outage updates, improved notifications, additional outage views, and better integration across mobile and digital channels.

To get the most out of the new platform, SDG&E encourages all customers to verify their contact information to ensure they receive proactive outage alerts via phone, text, or email. Customers are also urged to bookmark the new webpage for quick access during an emergency.
