SAN DIEGO, CA — About 650 pints of blood were collected during the Padres Summer Blood Drive, the San Diego Blood Bank announced.

The 10th annual event was held Tuesday at Gallagher Square at Petco Park. Donors received free tickets to the May 27 Padres game against the Philadelphia Phillies, as well as a Padres Summer Blood Drive UPF 50 Sun Shirt.

The Padres have partnered with San Diego Blood Bank to host summer blood drives since 2017. Since then, the Padres have helped collect more than 4,800 pints of blood supporting thousands of patients in Southern California hospitals.

Since one pint of blood could potentially save up to three lives, the blood collected at this year's Padres Summer Blood Drive could save up to 1,950 lives, according to San Diego Blood Bank.

"Ten years of partnership with the San Diego Padres has helped build one of our most impactful community blood drives," San Diego Blood Bank CEO Douglas Morton said. "It's inspiring to see so many donors come together to continue that legacy and support patients in need."

Anyone who was unable to attend the blood drive can still receive the limited-edition T-shirt by donating at any San Diego Blood Bank donor center or mobile blood drive through May 31.

To be eligible to donate blood, donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in general good health. Blood donors can schedule an appointment at SanDiegoBloodBank.org or call 619-400-8251.
