Suspect Arrested In La Mesa Assault

The victim remains hospitalized in critical condition, police said.

LA MESA, CA — A suspect was arrested in connection with an assault that left a woman critically injured last week in La Mesa, authorities said.

Alexsis Magana-Moreno, 22, was taken into custody around 1:30 a.m. Thursday near Kettner Boulevard and Broadway in downtown San Diego, according to the La Mesa Police Department.

The assault was reported shortly before 8 a.m. April 30 at 8274 Parkway Drive, according to police. Officers found a 38-year-old woman, believed to be experiencing homelessness, unconscious and bleeding from the head.

The victim remains hospitalized in critical condition, police said.

Investigators believe the attack happened during the early morning hours of April 30. The relationship between the suspect and victim remains under investigation, police said.

Magana-Moreno was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police asked anyone who was in the area at the time of the assault or anyone who has information to call the department at 619-667-1400. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through San Diego County Crime Stoppers.
