SAN DIEGO, CA — Prom season will go to the dogs this weekend as Helen Woodward Animal Center hosts its annual Puppy Prom for rescue pets and their families.
The 12th annual Puppy Prom will return Sunday at McGregor's Bar & Grill in San Diego, bringing together former orphan pets and their forever families for a prom-themed fundraiser benefiting rescue pets.
The free event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature costume contests, photo opportunities, treats for pups and people, a mimosa bar for adults, and prize drawings.
"Puppy prom is one of my favorite events of the year," Adoptions Services Director Kendall Schulz said in a statement. "We love to see pets experience their happily ever after, and there's nothing cuter than seeing them return for Puppy Prom looking like a million bucks."
For the first time in the event's history, dogs can compete in three costume contest categories. All contestants will also be entered in the PUPularity Contest, where attendees will vote for Prom King and Queen.
Contest entry fees are $20, with proceeds supporting animals and programs at Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe. McGregor's Bar & Grill will also donate 30% of food and beverage sales during the event to the nonprofit organization.
McGregor's Bar & Grill is located at 10475 San Diego Mission Road.
Free tickets and contest registration are available online.
