CAMPO, CA — A fire threatened structures, prompted evacuations and forced freeway closures Tuesday afternoon in the Campo area of San Diego County.
The blaze, called the Tusil Fire, sparked around 1 p.m. in the 37000 block of Tusil Road on the Campo Reservation, according to Cal Fire.
The fire, which was burning in light to moderate brush, was threatening nearby structures, fire officials said. By 2:06 p.m., the fire was 30 acres and spreading toward Interstate 8.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Office issued evacuation orders and warnings in the area. View the map here.
A temporary evacuation point was established at Golden Acorn Casino at 1800 Golden Acorn Way in Campo.
The California Highway Patrol closed westbound I-8 at state Route 94 and eastbound I-8 at Kitchen Creek due to the fire. A SigAlert was issued for the area.
Authorities advised the public to avoid the area.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
