SDPD Officer Charged With Child Exploitation Crimes

Brandon McGibbon, 33, was charged with five counts of child sexual abuse offenses involving three minor victims.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A suspended San Diego police officer is scheduled to be arraigned in federal court Tuesday on five counts of child sexual abuse involving three minors, prosecutors announced this weekend.

A federal grand jury indictment was unsealed Friday in San Diego charging Brandon McGibbon, 33, with five counts of child sexual abuse offenses involving three minor victims between Oct. 25 and Nov. 6, 2025, charges that carry a maximum sentence of life in prison, according to a statement released by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of California.

"McGibbon engaged in the attempted receipt and production of child pornography and the attempted enticement and coercion of the minors to engage in obscene matter and sexual conduct," the statement said.

The San Diego Police Department said the department has fully cooperated with federal investigators, assisted in the investigation as requested, and that McGibbon was suspended and his police powers were removed.

Special agents with the FBI, with the cooperation of the SDPD, led the investigation, in coordination with the U.S. Attorney's Office Special Victims Unit and the San Diego County District Attorney's Office.
