SeaWorld San Diego is making a major splash this summer with the debut of its completely reimagined Shark Encounter, part of the park’s ambitious new Summer Spectacular lineup that transforms the marine park into an immersive day-to-night destination.

Opened on May 22, the all-new Shark Encounter takes guests far beyond the traditional aquarium walkthrough experience, placing them face-to-face with more than 11 species of sharks. The refreshed experience begins in a coastal-inspired environment filled with colorful marine life and interactive displays before leading visitors deeper into an underwater world where sharks glide dramatically overhead through a 180-degree viewing tunnel.

The redesigned attraction also introduces interactive elements that allow guests to learn more about shark conservation, ocean ecosystems, and the vital role sharks play in marine environments. Visitors can also participate in shark feeding experiences.

SeaWorld’s updated approach to shark education focuses on appreciation, conservation, and awe. The experience emphasizes the beauty and intelligence of these misunderstood predators while surrounding guests with immersive visuals and ocean-inspired design elements that make the exhibit feel like stepping inside a living underwater documentary.

The attraction is part of what SeaWorld San Diego is calling its biggest summer season ever. Alongside Shark Encounter, the park is introducing a packed lineup of new entertainment, nighttime spectaculars, and animal presentations designed to keep guests at the park after sunset.

One of the season’s biggest additions is the Ocean of Dreams Drone Show, SeaWorld’s first-ever drone spectacular featuring 600 synchronized drones illuminating the night sky in formations inspired by dolphins, sea otters, sharks, and orcas, set to a soaring musical soundtrack celebrating ocean conservation.

SeaWorld is also launching an updated Dolphin Adventures show featuring dolphins, pilot whales, and playful younger dolphins with new music and staging, while nighttime experiences such as Shamu Celebration: Light Up The Night and Dolphins: Touch the Sky provide a new atmosphere to the park after dark.

Returning favorites include the BMX Blast stunt show and the theatrical Pirates Ahoy! The Battle for Mermaid Cove water spectacle, while the Summer Concert Series brings nostalgic 90s and early-2000s hip-hop and R&B acts to the park throughout the summer season. Artists scheduled to perform include Ashanti, Ginuwine, Jordin Sparks, E-40, Bow Wow, Soulja Boy, and more.

With extended summer hours, immersive entertainment, and the debut of Shark Encounter, SeaWorld San Diego is aiming to redefine itself as more than just a theme park. This summer’s lineup blends marine life education with large-scale entertainment, giving visitors new reasons to stay from morning through night while experiencing some of the park’s most ambitious attractions.
