SAN DIEGO, CA — San Diego drivers near Clairemont, pack your patience.
An overturned big rig has created a traffic mess in San Diego on Tuesday morning. Drivers heading southbound on the Southbound Interstate 805 connector to eastbound State Route-52 were being rerouted due to the closure.
Shortly after 10 am, the big rig with an overturned trailer continued to make a mess of the lanes near the San Diego Clairemont neighborhood, Caltrans said.
"All eastbound SR-52 traffic is being diverted to westbound SR-52," they said. Drivers should be prepared to reroute.
Just before 8 a.m., the semi-tractor-trailer overturned for unknown reasons, according to the California Highway Patrol. Hazardous materials teams were not needed due to this incident; tow trucks were "having trouble recovering the trailer," California Highway Patrol dispatch shared.
"The driver was speeding," one witness told CHP, adding that the wheels had been lifting off the ground and the trailer swaying before the transition road.
Another witness told CHP dispatch that the truck had suffered a tire blowout in the second trailer. The vehicle remained upright after the incident, but the right lane was totally blocked.
There were no injuries reported.
