SAN DIEGO, CA — The U.S. Coast Guard detailed 26 suspected migrants off the coast of La Jolla, authorities said Thursday.
Watch standers at the Joint Harbor Operations Center received a report at 2:28 a.m. from the USS Oakland of a suspicious unlit vessel. The center directed the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Terrell Horne to investigate, according to the Coast Guard.
A Coast Guard boarding team identified a 25-foot boat and boarded it without incident, officials said.
Crew members detained 24 adults and two unaccompanied children aboard the vessel, officials said. They were transported to Ballast Point, where they were turned over to U.S. Border Patrol agents for further investigation.
