A U.S. Marine is missing as search and recovery efforts continue off the coast of Southern California, officials said.
The Marine, who was serving aboard the USS Anchorage, was first reported missing at about 1:20 a.m. Thursday, according to Fox 5 News. Search and rescue efforts were launched and later shifted to search and recovery around 9 p.m. Friday.
The Marine went missing during an integrated training involving the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based at Camp Pendleton, and the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, according to media reports.
The U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force and U.S. Coast Guard have deployed three surface ships and 12 aircraft, covering more than 2,400 square miles over 43 hours of search operations, according to ABC 10 San Diego.
