Gun Threat Against Neighbor Sparks SWAT Response In Spring Valley

The suspect is expected to be booked into the San Diego Central Jail on criminal threat-related charges, sheriff's officials said.

SPRING VALLEY, CA — A man was taken into custody Tuesday after a standoff with sheriff's deputies in Spring Valley that began with reports he had threatened a neighbor with a gun, authorities said.

Deputies from the Rancho San Diego Sheriff's Station responded just before 1:30 p.m. to the 9000 block of Mac Lane after receiving a report of an armed man threatening a neighbor, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

When deputies arrived, they saw the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Julian Lewis, retreat into his home. Deputies attempted to de-escalate the situation, but Lewis refused to come outside, officials said.

The Sheriff's Special Enforcement Detail, or SWAT, and the Sheriff's Special Response Team responded to the scene because the suspect was armed.

Shortly after 3 p.m., Lewis surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. No injuries were reported.

Lewis is expected to be booked into the San Diego Central Jail on criminal threat-related charges, officials said.
