SAN DIEGO, CA — A motorist who refused to yield for a traffic stop Wednesday crashed the car he was driving into an oncoming vehicle while driving the wrong way on Interstate 8 in Del Cerro, severely injuring himself and three other people.
The fleeing driver was behind the wheel of a black Mercedes-Benz that entered the westbound side of the freeway at Mission Gorge Road heading east shortly after 10:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
After traveling on I-8 for about a mile and a half, the wrong-way car crashed into a westbound Honda Odyssey near College Avenue, the CHP reported.
Paramedics took the two drivers involved in the collision and two people who had been riding in the Mercedes to hospitals for treatment of serious injuries, according to the Highway Patrol.
The name of the wrong-way driver, who was arrested following the collision, and details on criminal charges he might face were not immediately available.
