SAN DIEGO, CA — More than 100 lost pets have been brought to San Diego Humane Society since Fourth of July celebrations, prompting the organization to urge owners to check shelter listings as soon as possible.
As of Monday morning, 127 lost pets had arrived at the organization's shelters, but only 22 had been reunited with their owners.
To support reunifications, San Diego Humane Society is waiving all pet reclaim fees through Tuesday at its campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside and San Diego.
Pet owners looking for a missing animal can search the shelter's lost and found page at sdhumane.org/lost or text "LOST" to 858-SAN-LOST for guidance on the recovery process.
The organization said 253 stray pets were brought to its shelters from July 4-7 last year. Of those, only 84 animals were reclaimed by their owners.
