SAN DIEGO, CA — Eligible San Diego Gas & Electric customers will receive two electric bill credits this summer as part of the California Climate Credit program, providing relief during the months when energy use is typically highest.

The credits of $49.36 each will be automatically applied to eligible customers' electric bills in August and September, the utility announced. The credits are funded through California's Cap-and-Invest Program and administered by the California Public Utilities Commission.

All eligible residential electric customers, including those served through Community Choice Aggregation programs and residents of multi-unit properties with shared meters, will receive the credits. Eligible residential natural gas customers received a $32.58 climate credit in April.

In addition to the credits, SDG&E said customers are seeing lower energy costs through recent and upcoming rate reductions. An electric rate decrease took effect in June, a natural gas rate decrease began in July and another natural gas rate reduction is planned for August.

The combined rate changes are expected to reduce average residential monthly bills by about $6 for customers who receive electricity from another provider but use SDG&E for delivery, and about $7 for customers who also receive natural gas service through SDG&E.

The California Climate Credit is funded by payments from companies that produce greenhouse gas emissions, with proceeds returned to utility customers as bill credits to help offset energy costs.
