Man Arrested After Fatal Stabbing At San Diego Encampment

A preliminary investigation found the individuals involved knew each other and an altercation occurred at the encampment, police said.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A suspect was arrested after a man was fatally stabbed during an altercation at an encampment in San Diego, authorities said.

Police and fire personnel responded shortly before 7:30 p.m. Saturday to multiple 911 calls reporting a stabbing in an outdoor encampment near the 4700 block of Friars Road in the Morena neighborhood, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Officers found the 44-year-old victim suffering from apparent stab wounds. He was taken to a local trauma center, where he later died from his injuries.

A preliminary investigation found the individuals involved knew each other and an altercation occurred at the encampment before the stabbing, police said.

The department's Homicide Unit took over the investigation and identified 29-year-old Michael Clark as a person of interest. Officers located Clark before 1 a.m. Sunday near the 4800 block of Pacific Highway and arrested him.

Clark was taken to San Diego Police Headquarters for questioning before being booked into San Diego County Jail on suspicion of robbery and murder.

The victim's identity was withheld pending family notification.
