Smoke From Thorn Fire Prompts Air Quality Advisory For Parts Of San Diego County

CAMPO, CA — A smoke advisory was issued Wednesday for parts of San Diego County due to a wildfire burning in Campo.

The San Diego County Air Pollution Control District issued a smoke advisory for areas around Boulevard, Live Oak Springs, McCain Valley and Tierra Del Sol.

The blaze, called the Thorn Fire, sparked Wednesday afternoon near Buckthorn Trail and Clover Trail. As of 5:35 p.m., the fire had burned 236 acres and was 0% contained, according to Cal Fire.

"Wednesday evening winds will continue blowing towards the east and south, then will be calm to light overnight," the advisory stated. "Early Thursday morning, winds may shift and blow the smoke northward."

In areas with heavy smoke from the fire, air quality is expected to range from unhealthy for sensitive groups to unhealthy for all individuals, according to the district. Where smoke impacts are lighter, conditions may vary from moderate to unhealthy for sensitive groups.

The district advised residents near affected communities who smell smoke to limit outdoor activity. People should stay indoors, if possible, to limit their exposure to fine particulate matter and ozone, especially those with respiratory or heart disease, children and the elderly.
