Discount Supermarket Chain Opening New San Diego-Area Store Following Closures

The local store is among several California locations the chain plans to open this summer.

RAMONA, CA — Just months after closing dozens of underperforming stores, a discount supermarket chain is expanding again with a new location set to open later this month in Ramona.

The independently owned Grocery Outlet Bargain Market at 1855 Main St., Suite 1120, will celebrate its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon July 30, the company announced. The Ramona store will be operated by Jordan Kelley.

As part of the celebration, the store will donate $1,000 to the Kiwanis Club of Ramona.

Beginning at 7 a.m., the first 100 customers will receive a mystery-value Bliss Buck gift card, with one worth as much as $500. Shoppers will also receive a free reusable bag with a purchase during opening week, while supplies last.

Customers can also enter a drawing for $1,000 in free groceries through Aug. 28.

The Ramona store is among several California locations Grocery Outlet plans to open this summer as the Emeryville-based discount grocery chain resumes expansion after closing 36 underperforming stores earlier this year, including nine in California. Other stores are slated to open this summer in Ontario Ranch, San Francisco, Clovis and Petaluma, KTLA reported.

The company said it plans to open at least 30 new stores in 2026.
