SAN DIEGO, CA — A prolonged stretch of hot weather is expected to affect much of San Diego County through Monday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue heat alerts for the deserts, mountains and inland valleys.
An extreme heat warning will be in effect for the San Diego County deserts from 10 a.m. Wednesday through 8 p.m. Monday. Forecasters said daytime highs will range from 112 to 117 degrees, while overnight lows will remain in the mid-80s to mid-90s, providing little relief from the heat.
Heat advisories will also be in effect during the same period for the county's inland valleys and mountains.
Temperatures in the inland valleys are expected to reach the mid-80s to around 100 degrees, with the hottest conditions forecast from Thursday through Sunday. In the mountains below 6,500 feet, highs are expected to range from the mid-80s to mid-90s.
The weather service said the prolonged heat will increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, with elevated overnight temperatures limiting recovery from the daytime heat.
Residents are urged to drink plenty of water, stay in air-conditioned buildings, avoid prolonged time in the sun and check on older adults, neighbors and others who may be vulnerable to extreme heat.
