Smoke From Creelman Fire Prompts Air Quality Advisory For Parts Of San Diego County

RAMONA, CA — A smoke advisory was issued Wednesday for parts of San Diego County due to a wildfire burning in Ramona.

The San Diego County Air Pollution Control District issued a smoke advisory for areas around San Diego Country Estates.

The blaze, called the Creelman Fire, sparked shortly before 3 p.m. in the 300 block of Creelman Lane in Ramona, according to Cal Fire. As of 4:36 p.m., the fire had grown to 315 acres and was 0% contained.

"Westerly winds in the area are moderate and blowing the smoke towards the east," the advisory stated. "Winds will continue to be moderate from the west through this evening. Overnight winds will be light and variable."

In areas with heavy smoke from the fire, air quality is expected to range from unhealthy for sensitive groups to unhealthy for all individuals, according to the district. Where smoke impacts are lighter, conditions may vary from moderate to unhealthy for sensitive groups.

The district advised residents near affected communities who smell smoke to limit outdoor activity. People should stay indoors, if possible, to limit their exposure to fine particulate matter and ozone, especially those with respiratory or heart disease, children and the elderly.
