SAN DIEGO, CA —Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest Thursday announced it has expanded its ultrasound dating services to all 18 of its health centers throughout San Diego, Riverside and Imperial counties.
Early ultrasound dating is the most accurate method for establishing gestational age. For Planned Parenthood patients, many of whom rely on the organization as their primary source of reproductive health care, "access to accurate gestational dating strengthens the entire continuum of services," a statement from the organization read.
"Every person deserves access to accurate information to make the best decisions for themselves and their futures," said Dr. Antoinette Marengo, chief medical and transformation officer of Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest. "By expanding ultrasound dating services across our entire affiliate, we're helping reduce barriers to care and ensuring more patients can access essential reproductive health services in their own communities."
Patients can schedule an appointment by calling 888-743-PLAN or by going to planned.org.
"Early pregnancy dating is a critical part of quality care. Establishing an accurate gestational date helps patients -- whether someone is exploring their options, preparing for a pregnancy, or seeking prenatal care, all people deserve timely information and support to make informed decisions about their own bodies and health," Marengo said. "Offering ultrasound dating strengthens the entire spectrum of reproductive health care -- from early pregnancy assessment and prenatal referrals to miscarriage management and abortion care -- because accurate gestational dating is the foundation of safe, evidence-based clinical decisions.
"In regions where patients must travel long distances or struggle to access obstetric services, offering this care locally helps to advance health equity. We are so proud to continue breaking down barriers to care and expanding access for the communities that rely on us."
