Earthquake Near Palomar Observatory Rattles RivCo, San Diego County

SAN DIEGO, CA — An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.2 rattled parts of Riverside and San Diego counties Friday afternoon.

The quake was reported at 1:10 p.m. about 5 miles west of Palomar Observatory, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The observatory is located on Palomar Mountain northeast of Escondido.

The quake had a depth of roughly 8.5 miles, according to the USGS.

Residents across San Diego County reported feeling the quake, including in Escondido, Fallbrook, Ramona, San Diego, Valley Center and Vista, according to the USGS. Residents in Riverside County also reported feeling the quake, including in Murrieta, Temecula, and Wildomar.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
