Children ages 4 to 12 also can take part in giveaways and activities and receive free chocolate chip cookies and apple slices, while supplies last.

The event is intended to help families with back-to-school costs and give students a fresh haircut before the new school year.

"As a former educator, I know when students feel confident, they're better prepared to learn and succeed," said Leslie Mannes, owner/operator of the Escondido location. "We're proud to help students start the school year feeling their best while easing some of the back-to-school costs families face."

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at McDonald's at 1146 E. Valley Parkway. Free haircuts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Appointments aren't required. Walk-ins will be accepted while supplies last.
