SAN DIEGO, CA — Caltrans announced Tuesday it is accepting applications for approximately $35 million in sustainable transportation planning grants for projects across California, including Southern California.
The grants are intended to fund projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving multimodal transportation and helping underserved communities become more resilient to natural disasters and extreme weather, according to Caltrans.
Transit agencies, local governments, regional and metropolitan transportation planning organizations and Native American tribal governments are eligible to apply.
Applications are due by 5 p.m. Oct. 9, with awards expected to be announced in spring 2027.
The Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant program awards approximately $35 million annually through funding from Senate Bill 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, the State Highway Account, Federal Transit Administration and Federal Highway Administration.
Caltrans said the funding supports sustainable transportation strategies in communities throughout the state, helps California meet greenhouse gas reduction targets and is intended to improve safety and mobility across the state's transportation network.
Caltrans will host application workshops beginning next week and provide technical assistance to applicants through the application deadline.
