ESCONDIDO, CA — Authorities sought the public's help Thursday in determining how a 56-year-old Escondido man died after his body was found last year in North County.
Jorge Soares was reported missing by his family Jan. 13, 2025, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's detectives said he was living in Escondido in 2024 and frequently traveled to San Bernardino County, including the Victorville and Hesperia areas.
Soares was later found dead in the North County area. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unknown.
Soares was 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighed about 175 pounds. He had brown hair and brown eyes and was last known to have a shaved head and goatee. He had tattoos on both arms and went by the nickname "Stone."
San Diego County Crime Stoppers was offering a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone with information that leads to an arrest in the case.
