1. Update: Sorrento Fire in San Diego County close to 100% containment (sacbee.com) — Fire crews have the Sorrento Fire near Sorrento Valley Boulevard and Carmel Mountain Road in San Diego County 95% contained after burning 138 acres. Officials explain that most of the perimeter is now lined, but some uncontrolled fire remains, so residents should understand containment doesn't mean the blaze is fully out yet.
2. NB I-5 and part of NB I-805 closed overnight for construction (nbcsandiego.com) — If you drive I-5 or I-805 tonight, expect major overnight closures between Torrey Hills and University City from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for restriping. The work is part of a long-term $113.7 million I-5 Asset Management Project improving pavement and safety on key freeway stretches through San Diego, Chula Vista, and National City through 2027.
3. County supervisors to introduce new plan to tackle the Tijuana Sewage Crisis (nbcsandiego.com) — County leaders are set to unveil a new plan to intercept Tijuana River sewage on the U.S. side before it reaches San Diego communities and beaches. The phased treatment system aims to protect public health, coastal recreation, and the local economy, offering fresh hope to South Bay surfers long frustrated by chronic pollution.
4. Two arrested in connection with countywide bank theft, fraud (sandiegocountynews.com) — San Diego County investigators say two men have been arrested in a bank card-switching scheme that hit victims in Lemon Grove and across the county, including elderly residents. Authorities linked the pattern to dozens of similar cases and urge locals to be extra cautious at ATMs, closely guard their PINs, and monitor accounts for suspicious activity.
5. San Diego carrier USS Abraham Lincoln passes Singapore en route to Thailand (sandiegouniontribune.com) — San Diego's aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln is sailing past Singapore on its way to Thailand for its first port call in more than eight months before returning to North Island late September. Meanwhile, another San Diego carrier, the USS Theodore Roosevelt, is preparing to deploy within days, signaling a busy rotation for the local Navy community.
