SAN DIEGO, CA — A North Carolina teenager has been charged with murder for allegedly agreeing to livestream a deadly shooting at a San Diego mosque and distribute a manifesto written by the attackers, officials announced.
Sarah Lindsey Santiago, 17, was indicted Monday by on three counts of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, according to Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O'Neill, who said the teen will be tried as an adult.
According to the indictment, Santiago allegedly agreed with 17-year-old Cain Clark and 18-year-old Caleb Vazquez before the May 18 attack to livestream the shooting, publicly distribute the recording and release a manifesto written by the attackers.
Clark and Vazquez killed three people at the Islamic Center of San Diego before shooting themselves in a vehicle near the mosque, authorities said. The victims included a security guard and two other men who officials said helped prevent the gunmen from getting farther inside the mosque, where about 140 children were present.
Santiago was arrested last week in North Carolina. O'Neill said she could face murder convictions despite not directly committing the killings.
The FBI and law enforcement agencies in North Carolina and San Diego were investigating the case.
