Students were selected based on academic achievement, leadership, public service and efforts to make their schools and communities more sustainable, according to Wheelhouse.
"Sustainability has long been an important part of Wheelhouse's commitment to the San Diego community, and these students show how meaningful environmental leadership can begin anywhere — in a classroom, at home or through a project that brings people together," Wheelhouse President and CEO Lisa Paul-Hill said.
Wheelhouse also offers scholarships to students from San Diego County first responder families through its Badge of Honor Scholarship Program. The credit union said it has awarded $147,000 in scholarships to local students since the programs began.
