SAN DIEGO, CA — A suspected drunk driver was hospitalized this weekend after he lost control of his speeding car in La Jolla, according to authorities.
San Diego Police Department officers and San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel responded at about 8:30 p.m. Friday to the 8700 block of Villa La Jolla Drive, where a 26-year-old man lost control of his 2025 Tesla Model 3 while entering a condo complex driveway, police said.
"The Tesla entered a private driveway for the Woodlands North Condominium complex at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle," Officer David O'Brien said. "The vehicle slid to the side and collided with a curb and a tree further down the driveway."
The driver was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. He sustained fractures to two ribs, his lower vertebrae and pelvis. He also sustained pulmonary contusions and a concussion, O'Brien said.
The SDPD Traffic Division responded and was handling the investigation. DUI was determined to be a factor in the collision, according to O'Brien.
