Crash Shuts Down Southbound I-5 Near U.S.-Mexico Border

SAN DIEGO, CA — All southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near the U.S.-Mexico border were blocked early Thursday after a crash spilled fuel and other vehicle fluids across the freeway, authorities said.

The crash was reported before 4:45 a.m. just south of Camino de la Plaza, according to the California Highway Patrol.

All four southbound lanes were affected by fuel and other vehicle fluids, according to the CHP traffic incident log. Authorities requested absorbent material for the cleanup.

The CHP issued a SigAlert around 4:45 a.m. and estimated that the closure could last about two hours, depending on the cleanup.
