SAN DIEGO, CA — A stretch of westbound state Route 78 in San Diego County is closing overnight through Thursday as crews work on a highway improvement project, Caltrans announced.
All westbound lanes at South Rancho Santa Fe Road in San Marcos will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly through Thursday, Oct. 15.
Motorists will be directed off the freeway at South Rancho Santa Fe Road and can re-enter westbound SR-78 using the on-ramp at the same interchange.
Crews will replace concrete slabs used for a system that measures vehicle weights as part of a $126 million project to improve a 17.7-mile stretch of SR-78 between Interstate 5 in Oceanside and Broadway and Lincoln Parkway in Escondido.
Electronic signs will alert drivers to the closures and alternate routes. Nearby residents and businesses should expect increased traffic, construction noise and lighting during the overnight work.
The schedule is subject to change due to weather or other conditions.
Drivers can check current road conditions at Caltrans QuickMap.
