SAN DIEGO, CA — A fatal multi-vehicle crash shut down all northbound lanes of Interstate 15 in San Diego early Monday morning, causing major traffic delays, authorities said.
The crash was reported at 5:15 a.m. on northbound I-15 at Clairemont Mesa, according to the California Highway Patrol.
All northbound traffic was being diverted onto the state Route 52 connector road while authorities investigated the crash. Motorists were allowed to reenter northbound I-15 beyond the crash scene.
Traffic congestion continued to grow as the closure remained in effect through the morning commute, according to the CHP. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes and expect delays in the area.
In a 7 a.m. update, the CHP said all northbound lanes were expected to reopen within an hour.
No other information was immediately available.
