SAN DIEGO, CA — A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck Baja California, Mexico, Tuesday morning, with shaking reported in parts of San Diego County.
The quake struck at 10:27 a.m. roughly 6.2 miles north of Delta, Baja California, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake had a depth of 9.8 miles.
Residents in Chula Vista, San Diego and San Ysidro reported feeling the shaking through the USGS "Did You Feel It?" citizen-science platform.
The earthquake followed a series of smaller quakes in the area. The Southern California Seismic Network recorded 17 earthquakes within about 6.2 miles of Tuesday's epicenter over the preceding three days, including a magnitude 3.6 quake earlier Tuesday.
The earlier quakes were identified as possible foreshocks.
Aftershocks may be expected in the coming days, with about a 5% chance of a larger earthquake occurring, according to the seismic network. The likelihood decreases over time.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
