Bacteria Levels Prompt Water Warnings At Several San Diego Beaches

SAN DIEGO, CA — Several beaches in San Diego County remain under water contact warnings due to high bacteria levels.

On Sunday, health officials announced a water contact warning for Silver Strand Guard Shack. South swell conditions are present and pushing ocean waters from the south to the north, according to the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality. Bacteria levels in the area exceed state health standards and ocean waters may contain sewage and cause illness, officials said.

The Tijuana Slough Shoreline from the international border to the south end of Seacoast Drive also remains closed until sampling confirms the water is safe, officials said. The public is advised to avoid contact as the water in this area is impacted by sewage and may cause illness.

Several beaches also remain under advisory because bacteria levels have exceeded state health standards and may cause illness. These include Bayside Park at J Street, Tidelands Park, San Diego River Outlet, North Cove Vacation Isle, La Jolla Cove, Avenida De La Playa, and the Children's Pool.
